Furniture

Expression of the most refined tradition of cabinet-making mainly in the Lombard-Venetian area of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

Alongside consoles, mirrors carved in exuberant scrolls and tangles of leaves and flowers, inlaid chests of drawers, it is also possible to admire original and bizarre pieces of furniture characterized by elements that clearly refer to the taste for the grotesque and the monstrous typical of late sixteenth-century culture. This is the case of a walnut wardrobe with the architrave animated by the heads of small monsters or the so-called "devil's piece of furniture" which most likely belonged to the Veronese apothecary Francesco Calzolari (1522-1609), known for his vast collection of naturalistic specimens as well as objects capable of arousing wonder.
